IGF and DeVry GDC Submissions!

Hey everyone,
It's been quite a while since I've last updated this. We finished our Beta version of the game for our Midterm project and the presentation went very well! The other projects that were shown were great and also had plenty of potential if they decided to continue on with them.

Final Stretch!

Just a quick little update to keep anyone who reads this on the right page. Our game is scheduled to be done in the NEXT WEEK OR TWO. We have most of our assets all inside our edited UDK levels. All we have to do at this point is make all of the things come together correctly and fix all of our problems. I will be sure to update this blog when our game is complete with screenshots, movies, and a link to our game download!
I'm sure everyone is going to enjoy our game (or at least I hope they do).  After we release our beta, we will be submitting it to the GDC Student Competition further in the month.

Weapon Scripting!

Just a quick little update, as there isn't much to show at this point. Generally it's mostly been level layout, creation, and implementation of everything into these levels.

I've been working hard on the level designs and layouts with one of my teamates, Tate Marske [http://unrealplatformer.blogspot.com/], and so far we have three complete levels! We have about 2 or 3 left, and we're making good progress so far.

As for weapons, I have been working on scripts for both the bosses gun and a special weapon for one of our ant enemies. This is the first time I've ever worked in the particle editor and I must say... it's pretty intense. Hopefully I can get it to look like how I want.

Weapon Update

Hey again,
Happy Monday! I don't really like Monday's, but so far it's the one day I can get a lot done.

Today, I finished the mapping/texturing of the bosses' gun. I think it looks pretty good and will only look cooler in-game! I also started working on the weapons code inside of UDK.

With all of this progress, I've only run into a few problems. I completely forgot how to change the origin of the bones/nodes in UDK to match the static mesh or character I'm aligning with it. After I get that, all I really have to do is change the code, which as I talked about before should be really easy.

Shoe Finalized!

I finally finished the shoe! I must say, I really liked the how the seams were red previously, and I think i'd work really for our game in this stage.

Cockroach Updates


This past week has been all sorts of fun! Now that I am finished with rigging/animating the cockroach our group created, I realized how easy the other bug models are going to be. Now that this has occured, I decided I'd have some time between major assets to create a shoe. Yes, that's right... a shoe. (the texture is not finished, but I am very close to it. The red stitching was used just as a visual helper)

In the mean time, I am still working hard on the Rat. I am going to start scripting his gun to the way I want and hope everything goes quite smoothly. The only problem is that I've never worked with a gun that has a projectile, but it shouldn't be that different from the rocket launcher UT has.

Boss Weapon

I need to update this blog more often, since my last post was last Thursday (oops). I definitely have been working hard on everything I've been given, so don't worry about that.

Over the last week I re-mapped/textured our chair model so that it looks nicer with our new shaders! I think they looks super cool and can't wait for everyone to see the new graphics of our game. Along with that, I also started working on modeling/mapping the bosses gun. Here's what is done so far.


Today I've been working more and more on the rigging and animations on the rat boss. I feel it's coming along great and should be all done within the next week or so. I also got one of our team members cockroach model, so I'm going to start rigging and animating that as well.
